I personally would be nervous about storing all winter bareroot.Here in zone 4 I would separate them into manageable groups of 50 or so,put them in a garbage bag and pour some potting soil over them and store them in the garage.My reasoning for the soil is so the roots don't get too dried out.I could be way off base,but I do know they will survive in garbage bags with some dirt for a long time because I left some in bags for 2 years at the side of my house and only discovered them when I saw a bloom sticking out of the bag.

Oh Betsy! LOL! I hope you planted that survivor out in a prime spot, perhaps with a little purple heart on it's name label.

I had 5 that made it.They were seedlings that I brought with me when I moved.I made them their own little bed out front, and now there are 9 distinct blooms,the result of leaving them unsupervised out there.You gotta watch them every minute! LOL!

If they were my daylilies I would keep them dry and just above freezing with good air circulation.

OK,listen to that one.Really knows this stuff better than me.No plastic-cardboard box maybe and no dirt.Cold,but not freezing.Thank you,Gary.I was hoping somebody that knows something more than me would answer!

The first DLs I bought were from a Box Store and they were in a plastic bag with course saw dust in a box. There was a crown but no leaves, I don't know how long they had been in the box but they lived and bloomed the first year.
