Joan Senior and Indy Star Dust - Question

Checking through my seedling bed today and mapping out who is who and see I do have a couple of crosses with Joan Senior. I purchased seeds last fall and started them in Feb/March this year indoors. Anyone have any info on how well JS grows? The one cross is Joan Senior X Prague Spring (DIP). I have Prague Spring and know that it performs well(growth, bud count, etc) here, but I don't have Joan Senior.
The other cross is Joan Senior X Indy Star Dust. Anyone grow Indy Star Dust?
Sorry to say that these two dip crosses did not increase at all. Still single fans so I'm wondering if Joan Senior is a bad choice for a pod parent.

I like JS too. Good plant habits for the rust belt. She has been a good parent for me. Don't grow either of the other two plants. Sorry! Ed |

| Thanks Dani and Ed for the info on Joan Senior. Hopefully the seedlings make it through the winter here and I can see what type of kids it produces. I've tried doing a search here on the forum but still no luck in getting info on Indy Star Dust. Must be one elusive daylily. Julia |

| I have two clumps of Joan Sr., one in my home garden that is just a year old and a very large one in my former display gardens. Both clumps were among the longest blooming I have due to all the buds. The one at the former display garden should be suffering from neglect. It has not been divided or soil improved since being planted in the garden some fifteen years ago. The clump is absolutely huge and it just keeps blooming. It is definitely hardy in z5. The one at home increased rapidly since late summer planting last year. It is also very fertile & gets quite a few bee pods. I think it will pass along very good qualities to its babies. It is known for passing diamond dusting. |

| INDY STARDUST is hearty in my zone 5 garden, but has not increased much but it does rebloom occasionally. INDY STAR DUST, is hard to find but is one of the best stippled flowers out there in my opinion. JOAN SENIOR does really good here, and is one of the ones I can chip a couple of fans off every year and it isn't even noticable by fall. I think all your seedlings will winter ok, they are all from good plants. |

| berrytea4me: If you decide to sell off any of JS, let me know. bambi_too: Do you have a pic of INDY STAR DUST? I've been searching and can't seem to find it. I didn't realize it was a stippled daylily. Interesting.... Julia |

bambi_too: Wow, first pic I've seen of ISD. Thanks for posting. The stippling doesn't appear too prevalent. Now I'll have to wait and see what kids come from the cross. Julia |

| JOAN SENIOR does all kinds of funny things as pod parent, I would expect some stippleing. |

juliany, I'm building my first garden website right now. Hope to announce it soon and be able to take limited number of orders before long. I may sell some on the LA too. I'm moving slow on going commercial, in part because I still need to find land and can't sell anything for profit from what's growing on community garden space. I can only sell from there to benefit charities because the gardens are non-profit. I'll be more like a hobby garden for the near future. Watch for me to announce the website. |
