Has anyone ever order fans from here? There are 2 I would like to have but have no experience with this seller.

Here is a link that might be useful: Guidry's Daylily Garden

We ordered for the first time this fall. It was an order for just one that we really wanted. It was shipped promptly and came with a nice bonus plant, too. Both plants were good sized, with healthy roots and are looking good in the garden. We would definitely order from Guidry's again.

Thank you for the reply!

I've won auction plants from him and was satisfied with plants and so forth. Would order from him without hesitation.

IMHO, very pricey. I'd only order from them if they had the only source.

Ed, I like your quote and I agree that prices too good to be true are usually just that. But, there are lower priced sellers out there with very good quality daylilies. I'm sure a lot of us could come up with a good sized list. Why pay $40.00 for a daylily that can be bought at another reputable grower for $20.00? Some of us are on limited budgets but still want to have beautiful yards and gardens.

Yes dd, it's a quote that all of us should heed, but often don't.

I was mostly (good naturedly) prodding my friend Nancy, who was complaining about low quality from a low priced vendor in another thread.

I certainly don't advocate paying outrageous prices for plants. I recommend paying informed prices for plants. $40.00 for someone else's $20.00 offering may be a great bargain. I personally have never purchased from Pat on a retail basis and feel the prices I have won his auctions for were good deals and the plants were nice. I often refer to his pictures to see what the newer daylilies look like, grown in a garden other than the hybridizer's. He seems to have lots of the newer, harder to locate plants and the pictures he posts shows he can grow the plants well. If you note his price list is a year old, so it is hard to compare prices. If he has something you want, I suggest you get a quote from him before writing him off.

Hi Ed, I didn't know PG sold on the LA. Do you remember his userid?

 o

I think it's "Pat".

Oh, well, Ed, I'm cheap. (smile) I do like to shop around to make sure the price I'm paying is close to average, at least. But I do have to say that I've had excellent results buying from Sunset Meadow Daylily Farm, with many that cost $5.00. Ray and Mickey Rogers are awfully nice people, and I've seldom lost a daylily that I bought from them. To give you just one example, I got Red Volunteer from them last fall - probably two fans, but not more, and now, just one year later, I can't even count the number of fans in that clump. That is an exception, of course, but there are vendors who do sell healthy, robust fans of older daylilies at most reasonable prices.

To be fair, I'll name a few more: Valley of the Daylilies, Jordan's, Wrights, New Every Morning, Aren't I Pretty (if they still are selling), Cottage Gardens, Sterrett, etc.

I do buy pricey daylilies when I want them badly enough! I would even have bought Clown Parade, but was too late placing this year's order.

Do any of you know anything about Maurice's daylilies in Louisiana? I found their website, with fantastic prices -- but now their site is under construction. Maybe I should offer to fix their website for a few daylilies?

Nancy
