Which daylilies would everyone choose to get the prettiest and alot of blooms at the lowest price all summer? With all the knowledge here and experience I figure I could get some good ideas, for my list of spring orders.

I love an oldie called 'Ida Miles' - it built buds and bloomed for two months straight last summer (mid through late). I got mine from Oakes for $5 - a nice clump at a very nice price.

Laurel

RE: best blooming daylilies?

I like lulaby baby for clumping and continual blooms for months. It is a very light peach. It is a def. choice for around my mailbox because it keeps going and going.

RE: best blooming daylilies?

I guess I'd have to go with

DESTINED TO SEE
BATMAN
SUMMER STAR
FORTY SECOND STREET
SPIRITUAL GUIDE
ZONA ROSA
GOOD MORNING AMERICA
EGYPTIAN SPICE
EDNA SHAW
GOLDNERS BOUQUET
HOLIDAY JOY
EASTER HOLIDAY
STRUTTERS BALL
HUNTERS TORCH

These either rebloomed nicely or bloomed for a goodly length of time last year.

These would be my recommendations for high-quality inexpensive rebloomers:

AUTUMN WOOD
BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
COPPER DAWN
COURT MAGICIAN
DECATUR APRICOT
JOVIAL
LITTLE BUSINESS
MOONLIT MASQUERADE
MY DARLING CLEMENTINE
SILOAM JUNEBUG
SANFORD TROUBADOUR
THUNDER AND BLAZES

RE: best blooming daylilies?

I'd have to go with ALL FIRED UP. In only its first blooming season in my garden, it bloomed for 3-4 weeks often with multiple blooms, then after a week or two it rebloomed, and rebloomed again after that with the blooms just as bright as the initial blooms. In fact, several weeks after all my plants were done blooming, I dug and moved many including All Fired Up. Two weeks later, in mid-October it put up one more scape for only to have our first frost of the season kill some blooms and disfigure and/or discolor others. If you like bright orange, I would recommend this one!

 o
RE: best blooming daylilies?

I have to agree with MOONLIT MASQUERADE. It blooms and blooms for me and makes a solid wall of flowers for me. After 3 years, I have had to divide it every year.

RE: best blooming daylilies?

It's not as hard as you might think to find nearly "everblooming" daylilies, Jill! It was hard for me to move my nursery last year from PA to NC, mainly because so many of the best plants I had to go through all that trouble for were relatively inexpensive... hardly making it "worth it" in a business sense... but I just couldn't leave those that did so well behind!

Anyway, these are the fastest reblooming plants I've grown... in BOTH my previous zone 5 AND new zone 7 locations:

ALICE'S DAY OFF
CAT DANCER
CHEROKEE PASS
CLOCKWORK
DARLA ANITA
ELEGANT CANDY
EXOTIC ECHO
FASCINATION STREET
FRANCES JOINER
INHERITED WEALTH
JAMAICAN JAMMIN'
MOONSTRUCK MADDNESS
ONE MORE HEARTACHE
SCATTERBRAIN
SPACECOAST TINY PERFECTION
ZONA ROSA

Naturally, there's more... just have to access my database and check that out too. Most all these are less than $15!

Good luck!

SALMON SHEEN blooms all summer long here in zone 9, and puts off proliferations like a mad man, you can have a huge stand in a couple years.

PARADE OF PEACOCKS awsome blooms if you like that color, but high stems and gorgoues blooms, steady through the summer here also.

PEACOCK MAIDEN my favorite as far as color and some grace too. Great performer, and i think if im not mistaken had 4 waves of bloom on that clump.

best of luck

WISEST OF WIZARDS

RE: best blooming daylilies?

I have found that zone is important when comparing performance. I'm on the MS/LA border and some of the ones mentioned in the thread don't perform well here. They don't like the heat. Some great/low cost performers for me here are:

Grand Marshall (yellow with ruffled edge)
Fencing Master (Munson)
Amy Michelle (pink double)
Forty Second Street
Prickled Petals (has double edging)
Victorian Principals
Bursting Loose 8"bloom(Mariott's has this for $12.00)
Big Kiss (everybody needs this one)
Highland Lord (Munson) red double
Wizest of Wizards
Paper Butterfly
Malaysian Monarch
Elizabeth Salter
Trahlyta
Ida's Magic
SCATTERBRAIN
MOONLIT MASQUERADE
All in All
Ann Gehry
Beautiful Edging
Chinese Scholar
Clothed in Glory (cost a little more but worth it)
Mildred Mitchell (very unique)
Chorus Line (oldie - very nice)
Collector's Choice (another Munson)
Fortunes Dearest (has teeth)
Spacecoast Starburst
Little Rosy Cloud (3.5 dia if you like small)
LOUIS THE SIXTEENTH
Charlie Pierce Memorial

I have a few that were mentioned above that I get a bloom or 2 a year on. I need to send them up north.

Send up North List:

Fairy Tale Pink
Priscilla's Rainbow
Something Wonderful

Great choices everybody now I have got to narrow it down by size, bloom times and color. Thank you everyone for your input.
Elle you are in the same zone and state as me so I assume you have all these and they have done great for you? I am also going to try some other choices too. Nancy cant wait to get the one I won off of ebay from you this spring.

Number one bloomer and repeat bloomer in my garden is JANICE BROWN. Not only is she beautiful but she bloomed her little heart out and has a slight fragrance also.

 o
RE: best blooming daylilies?

I have several that are exceptional at blooming.
BELA LUGOSI
RED RAZZMATAZZ
ALL FIRED UP
MARKED BY LYDIA
SILOAM DOUBLE CLASSIC
and, last but not least, BITSY, she is the first to bloom in my garden and continues until the hard frost gets her.

One of my favourites and a great parent is "First Knight - Salter, 1995"

 o
RE: best blooming daylilies?

I didn't see 'Grace My Love' on anyone's list and it is also great if you like to hybridize and the old, old 'Miss Jessie'. My 'Fairy Tale Pink' seems to like it just fine in the lower end of zone 8. 'Elizabeth Salter' who so many like has never done well for me. Go figure!

 o
RE: best blooming daylilies?

Wow, That Bold Encounter is a STUNNER!!! More for the must have list.

 o
RE: best blooming daylilies?

One older CV that did well for me last year was Daring Deception.( I haven't seen it mentioned) Bloomed for at least 6 weeks straight, if not longer.
