Plants for Difficult Places

Suggestions for fence-climbing vegetables/fruits?

As soon as we moved into our house almost a year ago, we had to put a fence around the back yard b/c of our Dalmatian. The yard doesn't get enough sun to sustain a vegetable garden, except for the left leg of the fence, about 50' long. I've gotten advice from Garden Club about flowers to plant, but what about vegetables/fruits? Would grapes be possible? The fence is the post and wire type, about 4' high. TIA, chery-va

Pole beans, cukes, squash are all excellent choices. Nothing better than a fresh pole bean to my mind. Best varieties I think are Emerite and Kentucky Wonder. Very easy to grow, BTW. All three types can be grown from seed on the spot. As long as your dog doesn't eat 'em (or the deer or groundhogs) you'll do great.

Also, pompkins come in small sizes and I think the big leaves and vines look very ornamental. If you have kids, they'll love em too.
