Covering deer loving plants?

Posted by gardenspuds 10/ CA (My Page) on

We recently moved into a house that has deer occasionally coming into the yard.

I planted some roses in containers for our deck.

Has anyone ever tried covering plants to prevent the deer from eating the plants?

I was thinking of covering the plants in the pots either with shade cloth at night, or if anyone can think of a more "permanent" solution, what would it be?

You'll definitely have to cover them in some way, but at night might not be enough, as deer generally feed at dawn and dusk. I'd try bird netting, just wrap it around the plants as a deterrent. I have some neighbors that do that with their roses, and I haven't asked the deer how it's working, but there are occasional blooms on them, so it must be doing something!
