Clay soil - Lots of shade

I want to plant some foundation plants along the back side of my home. It stays shaded for most of the day and the soil is heavy clay. It drains o.k.

Can anyone suggest some evergreen shrubs? I would like to plant mostly evergreen shrubs and maybe a few deciduous shrubs. I know that I have 1 hydrangea that I am moving to that area.

The majority of the bed area is about 9 feet wide and 6 feed deep at the wides point - not a huge area.

I am really not wanting to do a lot of soil ammending. I have done that on the front and I have had OK results. I have some hollies that are doing well and some juniper. The front gets full sun though, so I am not sure what to do about the back.

Any suggestions?

If I do make some soil amendments, how should I do that since I am planting shrubs?
