Illicium floridanum likes very moist soil, but prefers part shade. If it doesn't dry out, it should tolerate sun.

I googled that, not being familiar with it, but I didn't find any hardiness information. It's very attractive. Do you know how hardy it is? We can get down to minus 10 or lower although in recent years we've only been as low as zero.

I grow these in my rain garden (wet when it rains, dry otherwise), zone 7, full sun:

bog sage, salvia uliginosa. Blooms non-stop for me. Is pale blue and white bi-color.

Some of the monarda can take drier spells.

Perennial ageratum.

All of these are deer resistant, if that's an issue.

Cameron, thank you for the suggestions. I'll so some research a. I'm familiar with the plants as far as looks but don't know much about their requirements. We do have deer problems but usually the dog keeps them from coming as close to the house as this wet spot is.

What about Dappled Willow ~ an absolutely beautiful plant that can be shaped like a bush or allowed to grow like a small multi--stemmed tree. The leaves are narrow like willow, but varigated shades of light green, creamy white and palest salmon/pink. It loves moist areas and sun and can be shaped by simply pruning what you don't want or let it's lacy, free and flowing branches do their thing. Google search and see what you think ~ only problem with seeing pictures online or in books is that they don't begin to do this gorgeous plant justice. Good luck.
