Plants for Difficult Places

Nice ground cover under a white pine

I have a white pine that has the bottom braches cleared out already, and I'm getting mass quantities of pigweed growing, and its hard to maintain. My idea is putting down some fabric under the needles and plant some nice flowers or ground cover. Any Thoughts?

You could grown lingonberries or if you like them plant some wild ginger or even checkerberries (wintergreen).

I have some lingonberries next to my blueberry bush, seems to like the acidic soil and shade.

Lamium, hosta, coral bells, sedum, iris, day lily, mums, ferns, sweet woodruff, violets....and of course creeping charlie(yuk!)
