If salt is leaving a bad taste in your mouth, try these sweet treat(ment)s:

Plant salt tolerant plants like the ones listed in the link at the bottom.

but face it, these plants can only go so far. I myself am not fond of sea holly. and if you are watering with salt water (as is my situation) the problem can escalate over time. Sooo....

GYPSUM, GYPSUM, GYPSUM!

Gypsum can be top dressed and watered in. It has salts, but they are safe salts that will not kill your plants. It works by displacing the more dangerous salts. It also helps clay soil to crumb. Be generous with gypsum, and try topdressing every spring, that way the spring rain can help you to water it in. It is cheap, I think it cost us $2 a bag. It can also be tilled in, it will not 'burn' the plants. I hope this helps, it has worked for us.
