disappearing bergenia cordifolia

Will deer eat bergenia cordifolia? My three plants put in last spring have been eaten down to the ground twice since the beginning of March. The middle stem of one plant was chewed off and laying on the surface of the ground. The others were left without leaves, and more recently, without the flower buds. I suspect rabbits, but the deer are in my garden frequently. What do you think?
