what to plant in iron ore with heavy shade

| The top soil has washed and left me with a backyard of iron ore and is heavily shaded with oak and black walnut trees. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can plant that would be healthy and colorful without having to bring in top soil? I've tried azaleas (too dry)and hostas (too dry). The English ivy is holding on. The backyard is also sloped. |

| Well, because the roots of the black walnut tree emit chemicals that inhibit the growth of other plant with in its canopy and to a lesser extent the oak trees you have very limited choices. I don't have any suggestions but you can google the conditions and see what you get. |
