I live in suburban (formerly rural) Maryland where the deer have been displaced by building and development. There is parkland behind my house with a stream, so plenty of deer in my yard.

My deer haven't read the book on what they're supposed to eat, so they try everything - pine trees, forsythia, hydrangeas, etc. I spray, have two 150+ lb dogs, but that hasn't stopped them yet.

But my purpose is to tell a different story. Last year I planted Dahlias. After a few got chomped I put chicken wire over them, but that didn't stop the chomping.

It was RABBITS!

So..... don't always assume that what's eating your stuff are deer!

Rabbits make a cut so clean it looks as if it was done by newly sharpened shears. Deer make a ragged cut. Easy to tell the difference.
