Southern Magnolia leaves allelopathic?

Are the leaves of the Southern Magnolia allelopathic?

I use them as a mulch sometimes (say, around vegetables), and I'm wondering if that is counter-productive.

RE: Southern Magnolia leaves allelopathic?

I don't believe that the leaves have allelopathic properties, but wood chips from magnolia have proved to inhibit the germination of certain seeds.
