daylilies & tall hostas

I have goutweed as well and was in the same boat. I can tell you with certainty that the following will be choked by this evil monster: Hostas (even extremely large, old, established specimens which you dig out a large space for), Daylilies (not the fancies either) Peonies, Iris, Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Yew, Heuchera, lilac, canna lilies, giant lobelia, lily of the valley, lamium, shasta daisy, coreopsis, Creeping Phlox, Solomons Seal, Hydrangea and Ferns of all varieties and of course grass; even my obedient plants are struggling and I got them specifically because they are supposed to be invasive so I thought they might have a fighting chance. The two plants which haven't yet been completely choked are: LARGE juniper bushes and the foxgloves (too bad they're on their 2nd year in the biennial cycle!) I think the secret to the foxglove moderate success is the extremely large leaves which were semievergreen thus causing total shade from before the bishops weed sprouted in the spring. Maybe if you search the foliage forum for extremely large leaved specimens you can come up with something. Very likely that you'll have to yank copious amounts of the bishop's weed to give new plants any chance whatsoever. You could do what I did - behave as though your intention was to completely rid yourself of the bishops weed and plant accordingly and then when it pops up around and in everything you can tell people you meant for it to happen that way.

Wow Loniesmom, sounds like you've tried everything! Hard to believe it could choke out all those things but I guess I need to re-think that area.

I was thinking of putting those orange daylilies (Thanks myrtle18) that are so indestructible but you say it swamped your daylilies as well.

Back to the drawing board, I guess...
