Has anyone tried planting a bed for the deer?

I have a lot of plants around my house that the deer like, and I have five beds further away that I plant with garlic, herbs, etc. that the deer don't like. One of those five beds is fallow this year. I was thinking about planting some plants that grow quickly and that deer and rabbits like -- sort of a deer and rabbit salad bar. Has anyone tried this? And can anyone suggest possible plants? I was thinking lettuce.

Are you trying to advertise? The goal in managing deer is to make your property as unpleasant for them as possible. they are creatures of habit. If they make the habit of avoiding your land because it is so unpleasant, they will tend to stick to it. If you invite them into the restaurant, they will eat the advertised special, and then try everything in the buffet, ususally developing a taste for items they would have previously ignored.

Ha ha, that's really funny! The person above is totally right, the deer will come and eat everything, and won't go away. They aren't selective, they will decimate your whole garden. They'll even come up to your front porch and eat the stuff on the plants there as well.

I plan on deer being on MY menu, and any salad I'd grow would be for me, not those four footed mouths.

What is your intention??? are you trying to attract wildlife, or lure deer away from the house area???
According to a book I have, Canada yew - Taxus canadensis is a deers favorite food, followed closely by arborvitae - Thuja occidentalis.
Luring deer away won't work. Deer see the world in three categories: things they like more and eat first, things they like less and eat after they run out of the things they like more. and things they haven't tried yet, which they will promptly taste in order to place it in one of the first two categories. They may wander off and eat someone else's plants first, but when they run out of things they like more, the herbs and garlic are on the menu next.

Ziggy is right. I live in National forest on 30 acres of land. The deer never bother my plants because they have plenty of natural food they like better.
As for planting a bed for the deer. I'd use native grass they like.

Police can't ticket what they don't see. Why shoot a gun, get a bow.
