Plants for under a deck area

Hi
I live in Upstate New York, zone 6. We have a walk out basement with a deck above it. There are planting beds around the basement walls under the deck agaisnt the house. The area under the deck faces west and gets some late afternoon sun but very little water, I can water but in the winter it won't get much snow cover. What can I plant there, I was planning on ferns and succulents but would like an evergreen or two. Any suggestions
Thank you!

Aspidistra elatior or cast iron plant may work for you. Here's a link to a description and photos for information.
