volleyball!

We are just finishing putting in a sand volleyball court in our backyard. The problem that we have is that the area was not flat, so I had to dig in and build up to make a level area. On one side, we have a large berm with a fairly steep slope that is a mix of topsoil, sandy soil and clay (hardpan). This is mostly in the shade except for the longest days of the year and does not get a lot of water except when it rains. On the other side, we have grass until the 12" drop off to the sand. This is in the sun most of the day. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we can use for soil erosion protection. We would like to keep whatever it is from wanting to grow in the sand, not take over the lawn area, but be resistant to people walking over it if they have to chase the volleyball. I can send pictures or maybe post them somewhere if people would like to 'see' what I am talking about.

Thanks for ANY input!

Ken
