Wintering garden Oleanders

Due to the unbelievable mild winter last year my Oleander seemed to have survived and flourished in the summer. However I am worried this winter will see them off. Does anyone have any advise into how I can best protect them. They are in the garden and not in pots so I can't just bring them in.

I have heard of a method that involves piling leaves around a tender plant, then wrapping it in plastic or landscaping felt once it gets too cold for the plant. Or using cardboard and mulch for bulbs. I haven't had to try these methods yet, I have everything in pots because I rent. I hope that this works for you.
