Storing deer repellants over the winter

Help settle a debate between DH and myself. Deer repellants come in plastic bottles. On their label, they all have a warning to not let the product freeze.

a) DH says that it's because it probably changes the chemical structure of the substance itself.

B) I think it is far more likely that the warning is there because of the plastic bottle packaging. I suppose freezing could separate ingredients in the repellants, but they all recommend shaking up before using.

So what say you? a or b?
