I don't have that gold variety which is chamaecyparis obtusa. I think I've seen it listed as deer resistant, but I have no first-hand experience.

I have chamaecyparis pisfera 'Cream Ball' in my garden. The deer don't touch it. I've not even noticed a sample tasting. I've not really written about the shrubs like this in my blog, but I guess that I should.

I have c. pisfera 'gold mops' and they just barely tasted it and spit it out.

Not at my house. I had a beautiful older specimen and last winter they decimated it, I had to dig it out. It killed me because it was getting to look so nice (they are so slow). It was in winter. I had two other smaller ones which were below the snow and they nibbled on them, but didn't ruin them. I don't have too much trouble in the summer, though.
