What on earth are bulbs on rose shrubs?

Sorry meant to say the buds are getting chopped off. I read on another website that some deer like to nibble on the buds so I beleave that some wondering deer are doing the damage. Just bought some deer reprealent spray, hopefully that will work.

My neighbor has this problem. It is most likely deer causing the problems. Other than a fence, try planting a few fragrant plants around the rose that the deer do not like.

Are you sure it isn't rabbits? Even though I constantly battle deer, I get more rabbit damage than deer damage. It's just *knowing* that deer can do alot of damage in a very short time that makes them so threatening.

Somewhere I heard/read that until a deer is one year old, they don't have a good sense of smell and will eat most anything.

I've used a spray product called Liquid Fence with good results. It smells awful putrid until it dries. After spraying some tree roses I saw a young doe come up to them, smell them, and then walk away. Spring would be the best time to use it, before they get accustomed to eating your plants.

There's another product, Invisible Fence (?), but it has a very bad taste, and they have to sample the plant first.
