bird or deer netting deployed on the ground

Where I grew up in South Africa/Rhodesia we kept animals out by installing metal grills - the animals didnt like the idea of hooves or paws slipping on or into those grills - grills that humans can drive over or walk over easily.

Near where a deer trail enters my property I tried a similar idea with long poles and branches with about a 2 inch caliper and it seemed to work - but I need a ton of poles so have another variant......

My idea is to stretch bird and/or deer netting on the ground - actually it'll be a couple of inches off the ground across entrance ways owing to cobble stone edging or some of those aforementioned poles. I'll bet that deer wont walk on the netting even though we humans can easily......anyone tried this method?
