Do Deer eat buds from deciduous plants?

The fact that deer relish certain plants is well known. But I wonder if deer bother with small trees - trees have no leaves in the winter and therefor you wouldn't think that they would atteact deer. But do the deer in fact eat the buds? I suspect that they do........but any observations?

Hungry deer will browse on leaves, buds, and bark of whatever they decide is edible.

Yes. Two winters ago, they ate the ends off of several deciduous plants in my yard including kousa dogwood and burning bush. Both of which they normally ignore. To be fair, the burning bush plants seem to have liked the deer pruning, because this year they are looking particulary healthy and much bushier than they did two years ago.
