| Hello all,
Currently I have a 32' x 6' parking strip that has aggregate concrete slabs installed around a large Honey Locust Tree(fairly invasive surface root system). I want to eliminate the slabs, prune the roots of the tree and plant plants that are drought tolerant, deer/dog resistant and will also survive on a busy street near a JR High(foot traffic too) school. It will get full sun in summer and next to no water once established. I haven't narrowed it down but I was thinking of fountain and other ornamental grasses, daylillies, lavendar(english or spanish), phoriums, mexican bush sage, society garlic, artemisia and yarrow. What do you think would work well with the root system problem possibilities? Would you even bother planting stuff under that tree in the first place? Thanks very much, Dan in Coyote, Ca |

| Why not try a few ornamental grasses and see how it goes? If that is a fairly large tree, pruning the roots may interfere with its stability in wind. Perhaps you might want to talk to an arborist first. Sue |
