Does it get any harder?

There is a large area in the woodsy part of the yard that gets very wet when it rains, and stays dry otherwise. So for example, it was a skating rink until recently because all the melted snow had frozen over, but is now just at the yucky mucky stage, soon to turn into a pond, because they are calling for rain. Because of existing trees, sunlight is fairly limited, and a primo spot will most likely go to a Bald Cypress. Are there any other ornamentals (trees, shrubs, perennials - natives preferred, but anything goes as long as they aren't invasive) that would do okay in this situation? This would be easier if shade were not an issue. There are plenty of deer around, but this spot is not really along their travel routes.
