Flowering Dog-Wood Tree & blossoms

Hello again Group!

I have always been fascinated with the "Flowering Dog-Wood Tree," & have also always wanted one for myself. I have ordered several from various Gardening Catalogs, but have never had any luck with getting them to "live."

Also.. I have noticed that many of the "Flowering Dog-Wood" trees tend to grow better in the Southern regions, where the climate is much more humid, and has more "moisture." I may be wrong here, but I was in question as to any "tips" that may be good for my area here, especially in regards to the former Posting I just made on the Idaho Wildflowers..... Is my "terrain" too dry in my region?

I would give anything to be able to have a few "blossoms" off the Flowering Dog Wood Tree, in order to "press & dry" these! I was in question, if anyone has ever attempted to "dry & press" Flowering Dog-Wood Tree blossoms before? Any "feed-back" here?

Thanks all... (just wondering if I'm asking too many stupid questions here?!!!! )

-happiness,

They need moist soil and good drainage and they get stressed by dry weather so they do need watering. You might try one of the Dousa Dogwoods--Milky Way or Rosabella for their greater resistance to pests and diseases.

I've found that dogwood flowers dry readily and keep their color well.

Under the thread "Pressing Orchids" is a link or you can simply read through the threads on this forum to get the information you need on pressing flowers.

RE: Flowering Dog-Wood Tree & blossoms

O`siyo Ray!!
Thank you very much for your wonderful tips here about the Flowering Dog-Wood Trees & blossoms! Where you stated they need moist soil & good drainage, & also get "stressed" in dry weather, I think that's probably what my problem is out here in the West. It is extremely dry here, & like I've stated before, our "soil" is also dry & quite poor. We do not have the moisture or humidity that the Southern States have, that's for sure.
I will check with our local Garden Nurseries around our area here, to see if they carry the Dousa Dogwoods, Milky~Way, or the Rosabella's. I really appreciate your tips & in-put in regards to this Ray, and do hope you will feel free to comment back to me at any time on various things.
Thank you also for directing me to the "Pressing Orchid" link... I will go in & take a look. THANKS! Your help is much appreciated Ray~
