Hi! I was wondering if anyone has grown Salvia nemorosa
'Plumosa'. It has a plume-type bloom, instead of the usual salvia type. Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, we've grown it. The flowers dry very nicely, although they become less frothy in the process, and we harvest them throughout the summer. The plant seems to be a little smaller than other S. nemorosas, but it has the same awful cat-box smell when you touch the foliage. Fortunately, the dried flowers have no scent.

Thanks for the quick reply, Neil. One more question-in photos, the blooms look very dark. Since colors usually darken in the drying process, I was afraid they'd dry too dark. Is the dried shade still purplish, or does it dry almost black? Thanks again for your help.

They darken somewhat, but remain purplish rather than black.

I'll add the Salvia Plumosa to my order then. It's always fun to try something new. I hope you have a wonderful gardening year. Thanks so much. Sylvie
