Drying Catananche (cupid's dart)

I tried to dry cupid's dart for the first time. The flowers were fully open when I cut and hung them upside down to dry. The flowers closed while drying. I'm so disappointed. Has anyone else had any luck drying them? Do they always close?

Thank for your help. I love this forum.

It would be great if you could dry the open, blue flowers of catanache, but they just don't dry well -- or at least, I haven't found any way to do it. What does work is to dry the silvery seed heads that follow (which look very much like the silvery buds that precede the blooms). That's why catanache makes it onto lists of "flowers that dry well," even though it isn't the flowers that you end up using.

Thank you for your reply. I guess that explains why I havn't been successful! Do you wait until the blossom dies to cut and dry the seed head?

Yes, we do. We hang them upside down for the stem to dry.
