I've been using silica gel as a dessicant, but it is fairly expensive. Has anyone tried using table salt in place of silica gel? If so, how did it work? Tx.

The statement was to add the cornmeal to the borax to reduce weight on the flowers and that adding plain salt 1 to 2 tablespoons might speed up the drying time. No specific ratios for cornmeal - borax. Salt that is used for canning would probably be the kind to use.
