Lavender bottles instructions?

How do I make a Lavender bottle? How many stems of Lavender for each one? How much ribbon? Where do I make the first tie in the ribbon? Do I just let the short end dangle along inside until ready to finish it off?

UPDATE: I used 11 stems after finding out the hard way that an even number wont work. Also, dont use anything less than 1/4" ribbon. I learned the hard way using 1/8" ribbon which took a lot longer than 1/4" would have, and I am quite positive 1/4" ribbon makes for a better-looking result. Tie a tight knot under the heads of 11 stems of Lavender, about 12 inches from the end of the ribbon. Keep the other end of the ribbon on the spool. Do not cut it or you'll be sorry when it becomes too short. Weave the long end of the ribbon in and out of the stems, allowing the 12" end of ribbon to remain inside the bottle, dangling out the bottom. Dont weave it tight, keep it medium tight. The bottle looks best with a plump center. When the bottle has been woven past the end of the blossoms inside the bottle, tie it off using both ends of the ribbon. Knot it and tie it in a bow. Cut the stem ends off at desired length.

what is the difference b/t this and a tussie mussie? does anyone have a link or photo?
thanks.

RE: Lavender bottles instructions?

Tussie-mussies are tiny bouquets. Lavender bottles are a sachet package and the flower heads are not visible. Here's a link.

Here is a link that might be useful: link to photo

RE: Lavender bottles instructions?

For some reason, my lavender bottles or wands look much skinnier than the ones I've seen. I'm trying not to pull the ribbon tighter than necessary. Is there anything else I can do to make it 'pleasingly plump'? The variety I used is Grosso. Thanks for any help.

The fatness or skinniness is mainly a matter of the number of stems used. Try moving up to 15 stems -- that should make a wand that's perceptively bulgey, if not fat. More than that will get you toward a fat bottle, but will be harder to manage.
