drying orris root

hello.

can anyone tell me if there are specific directions to follow here. i plan on removing some healthy untreated irises and would like to save the root for crafts.

    Hi,
    You just have to slice the roots thinly, and dry them in a dehydrator or a warm oven. Cool and store in an airtight glass jar.

    I grate mine, then put them in a very thin layer on a Craftpaper covered cookie sheet and dry it in the sun.
    I like the smaller bit to use in making scent pots.

    now, that is a great idea!
    how do you keep from scraping off your knuckles? i never got the hang of a grater :)
