Strawflower Germination

| I am having very little success germinating Helichrysum (strawflower). The seed rep at Gloeckners confirms that germination of strawflower is usually poor. My ready reference"Specialty Cutflowers" by Armitage says nothing about low germination rates. Granted I was using ambient temperatures, but over a span of a month you'd think that temps suitable for statice, delph, chrysanth. carinatum etc. would have germinated the strawflower. I am aware the sprouted plant prefers a drying out between waterings. Any ideas? |

| I noticed low germination rates with some batches of strawflower seed this year, but as a rule they germinate well. I start mine indoors, and just press the seed into the medium. They seem to need light for germination. |
