Does anyone know the best way to dry hydrangeas? I have some hanging upside down that have shriveled up to nothing.

Hi gia4,
I have never dried hydrngeas, but I would try silica gel crystals. You can find them at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. They are expensive, but can be used over and over. When the blue flecks in the crystals turn pink or red, you heat them until they turn blue again. The container should have instructions on how to use the crystals, and how to "re-charge" them. I hope this helps. I hope that you get more replies.

hi, i have white hydrangeas that i dry hanging upside down, and i dry tons of it. it is very fragile and does shrink some, so that's the reason i dry all i can get my hands on. You can also just let them air dry in a vase for use later. i then use them in the natural color or spray them to what color i need. good luck!

If you pick them when the flowers are not mature they shrivel up to next to nothing ,, if the flowers are mature, they will not shrink like that

If you waite until they are in their prime than pick, put right side up in a vase with just a little water[1 shot glass for every two] at the bottom of vase they will dry great. Make sure you keep vase out of sun, perferably in a cool dark room until dry, some of mine are 2 yrs. old and look great. I have all colors and types and they all dry with true colors.

I heard somewhere to put them in a mixture of water and glycerin but I am not sure of the amounts of each.

Does anyone know the ratio of glycerin to water, in order to dry hydrangeas for later use in Christmas garlands? Thanks everyone!

Used glycerine to dry hydrangeas and they changed to a tan color from blue. I also put some in a vase with water and never added any more water., they eventually dryed and kept their blue/green color.
