pressed flower background colors

I was just wondering about the color of the background for a pressed flower picture. Would a pastel color be better than a primary one? Or would it all depend on the flower color or the effect one wanted to achieve?

Is there anyone color that is better than another? What do you use and how do you chose the color? I have seen several pics online, but the color seems to excape me.

I haven't done any arranging yet and was wondering what color or colors to buy.

Also, do you use a matt around your arrangement, and how do you choose one?

Hi, I'm attaching link which is of cards but same principal would apply to a framed picture. Oops, I just realized perhaps you might want to take into consideration the wall color or wallpaper, in addition to the color of the flowers. Anyway I think most any color background could be used. I've used black or dark brown with white flowers or grass plumes...very stark and dramatic.

You might want to pick up an inexpensive children's pack of colored paper to experiment. I have a pack which must be 25 years old which is fading somewhat but gives an "antique patina"...or so I tell myself...

Just have fun...I know my own creations are for only a few months before I'll want to try something else. I don't use mats but they do give a more professional finished look.
Check out your library for Penny Black's book ...she used a deep red background with red, magenta, and rose colored blooms...not for everyone but it was very striking. josh

RE: pressed flower background colors

Thanks Josh,

I went to the site and they do have some very pretty cards. Seems that sometimes the simplest ones are the prettiest ones too.

I did pick up some sheets of colored paper that I will be using soom, I hope. I don't feel that I am all that 'artsy', but I know what I like when I see it. Guess I just arrange my pretties like I like them.

Most of my flowers and leaves seem to be dried well (I use a microfluer) but I found some that are 'limp'. I guess I need to dry them again. Maybe I didn't do it long enough the first time.

John
