Preserving color

What are the best methods to preserve the colors of pressed flowers and leaves framed behind glass?

I have made several pressed flower "paintings," most of which fade over time. If possible, I prefer *not* to add artificial color, such as paint or pastels.

Is there some sort of spray fixative, or even special glass one can use when framing pieces?

I appreciate all suggestions! Thanks.
Sharon

Sorry, but mine all fade as well--I have learned to keep them out of direct sunlight. Not much help but I tried! Good Luck! Tootles

Keeping them out of sun/and or/ moisture helps.... also sealants like wax and varnishes can help.... (you can use a little if you don't like them......).........

One of the most important things to remember is always press the freshest flowers possible to retain good color.

While framing, tuck in a little silica gel where it'll be out of sight. Completely seal the picture so no outside moisture can be absorbed. Take the normal precautions, like keeping it out of direct sunlight and you should have better results.

We've been drying flowers (particularly roses) for years, and the bottom line is that no matter what you do to them, dried flowers will fade over time. Since we sell our arrangements and ornaments (tiny rose arrangements sealed into clear acrylic ornament shapes) at craft shows every year, we had to come up with a long-lasting solution -- we paint them! We use DesignMaster floral spray paint (found at craft and floral supply houses). The colors are lovely and very few people realize that the flowers have been painted. Our ornaments last indefinitely -- Some are 10 years old! Good Luck!
