violets, daylilies preserved with clear acrylic ???

At a craft show recently I saw some wooden plaques mounted with 3 demensional flowers showing original color preserved with a thin hard coating I was told was acrylic. Can anyone
tell me how this is done? What kind of acrylic and brushes or sprayer or dipper should I use? I would like to preserve amaryllis flowers for the time they are not in bloom. I am an authority on making them bloom 3 times in one year and raising them even in cold climates. But still sometimes the rare varieties and colors I love seem a long way off to the next bloom. Here's a site I found recently which might be helpful, although I note they say the polymer spray will "help retain the natural color". In other words, color probably still fades or darkens with time, but this might slow the process a bit. I think the sealant would probably be helpful by keeping moisture out though.

I have read that the oolite is better than silica since its faster-acting in removing moisture, thus preserving color better....but unfortunately I don't remember where I read it.

If you do use this method, please post your results. I have one more site I'll post separately as it shows flowers completely encased in acrylic. Unfortunately, no DIY kit offered, but there must be info out there somewhere...we'll just have to find it. josh

Here is a link that might be useful: Flower Preservation
