Keeping dried hydranges from crumbling

I've dried hydranges several times, but after a few months they start to get crumbly. (Possibly from being knocked around by children). Is there anything that they can be sprayed with to make them stronger?

I know others spray their drieds, but I haven't found it to make much difference. If you want to try, look for a matte acrylic spray in the paint section. Several light coats are better than one heavy coat to prevent a shiny, artificial look. The pee-gee types seem to hold together better & longer than the mop-heads. Hope this helps!

I have heard cheap hair spray works just as well as any other spray.
