Nigella Damascena 'Persian Jewels'

Hey everyone,

I know that the pods of Nigella Damascena "Persian Jewels" can be dried. I've been looking for information about whether the flowers can be dried as well. Can anyone tell me whether the flowers are suitable for drying or not?

They can be dried, and they're pretty, but they shatter fairly easily. If you're drying them for your own use, go ahead. If you're thinking about transporting them to a market, I'd try something different.

Hey neil allen,

Thanks for the help with my questions in both my topics. Are both the flowers and the pods of Nigella Damascena that fradgile when dried or just the flowers?

Just the flowers. If you harvest the pods when they've got good color they'll hold up well physically for quite a while -- over a year, certainly. The color will last maybe a year, then fade. Left in the field, the color fades fairly quickly and the pods become very fragile in a few months.

Ok, that's good to know. Thanks again for the help.

What are you going to use the flowers for? They press extremely well, and are very beautiful. How ever, as mentioned before, they are very fragile, so I would recommend coating them with Perfect Paper Adhesive if using them on cards or in art.

Well, if they are so fragile, I don't know what I would use them for. I'll probably use them in something like dried flower arangements for setting around the house. I've seen pictures of them and think they are pretty and thought they would be great for selling as dried flowers, but if they are that fragile, most likely for personal use.
