Groundcover for a lake of the Ozarks Ditch

Any ideas for groundcover for the ditches that run in front of our lake home? They are about 4 to 5 ft deep.
It seems the only thing that grows in ditches here in lake of the ozarks is weeds.

Please help if you can...I have been here 3 years and I don't know if I will be able to make it to the 4th.

Thanks~
Grace

Grace - you may want to ask this question again in another forum since you didn't get any answers here. You could try the Ozarks Forum or Midwest or Perennials. Those are all here at gardenweb but different people visit different forums. Be sure and tell whether it's in shade or sun. Here's a link to the Ozarks forum.

I wonder if morning glories would work? If they have nothing to climb they tend to make a big, beautiful mound. The less water and poorer soil the better, but they need sun. Good luck.
