Agapanthus in the desert!

How do these fare in high desert climates? I'm in the Mojave desert, S. California. Summers are very dry (average 15% humidity) and over 100 regularly. Winters can get as cold as 25F, but not for long. Only have snow once or twice a year - just a couple of inches. But its extremely arid here year round. Anyone have good success with Agapanthus in this type of climate? Sandy soil, by the way. I'm also considering salvia, daylilies, foxglove and double impatiens.
