Fence gutters? Ever been used before?

Hi, I need some advice please!

I have a perennial bed that is 4 years old in my backyard. I took out the lawn that was there, left the 3 20 year old Tower Poplar trees, and added manure & compost to plant in. It is at the top of a slope, small slope, about 2 1/2 feet tall. Behind this slope is my fence. Behind the fence, the slope continues up to the greenbelt berm, about another 6 feet up to the top of the berm.

I want to know if adding rain gutters behind the fence with holes drilled in it would be a valuable idea or not? I want to "catch" some of the rainfall to make it directly weep into the back of the garden bed. We aren't getting significant amounts of rain, but the best in about 5 years. The slope garden dries out the fastest in my yard, and slugging the rain barrel water from the house is time consuming, although I do it! I also have an irrigation system in this area, but am trying to conserve water and my money!

Your thoughts please? Stupid waste of money, time? Any other suggestions?

Thanks everyone! CanadianKimmy
