Watch out: Beetles now infest Blue Spruces

This sounds really serious. Beetles are now eating Blue Spruces in Denver. The pinyons here in SW Colorado have been decimated by the @#$%* pests. Sounds bad, hence I posted this on the Conifers site and on the Rocky Mountain Gardening site. I hope I'm not doing a Chicken Little, but beetles are nasty and if they get into your trees, they will HAVE to be cut down and burned. Beetles are a no-ption situation.

What species of beetle is doing the damage to the blue
spruce? Is this an exotic pest? Is there a seasonal pattern or is this a year-round problem?
