Squirrel issues

I just moved into an appartment in Westchester and now have to contend with the local bullies, three squirells. They have already raided most of my gladiola bulbs and are moving onto the onions. So far they haven't touched my garlic. I have some citris which I really don't fear for, but I also am growing plum, apricot, persimon, boysenberry, strawberry, passion fruit, and raspberry. Any thoughts on which ones need protecting and how I might gow about it. The garden is still very young and I can easily mess with it if I must. Thanks.

Squirrle removal may be a good option, if you can trap and kill them. Don't use live traps unless you want to drive 30+ miles away to let them go elsewhere. Besides that, it may be illegal. A rodent poison as well as some rat traps can also help. Sure, more will come, but if your watchful, and rebait the traps, you may reduce summer damages. Chicken wire buried above the bulbs will help prevent them from being dug up.

A bb / pellet gun does wonders for tree rats...

Don't think of them as a problem. Think of them as an extension of your edible landscaping.

ah yes. Squirrel gumbo is great. Just don't let the neighbors kno

how you are supplementing your protein intake.
Too many people think squirrels are cuties that just walked off a Precious Moments statuette and do not know them for the Darth Rodents they are.

scroll down past the squid. Old country neighbor would make squirrel pie every month off the ones in her old mulberry tree, she used an Crossman pump pellet gun if she couldn't lure them in close enough.
