Dwarf Okra

Has anyone grown dwarf okra as a landscaping plant?

I have some coming and I thought that might be pretty and it is edible.

Any ideas how many plants I dare plant per 18' container?

thanks,
Dean

Do you really mean 18 foot container or 18 inch container? If it is the smaller size, I expect three will be the most but you could sow a few more and thin. Okra does have a lovely flower - similar to a rose of sharon - but watch out for ants when harvesting. And pick the fruit when it is still small to keep the blooms coming.

Yes, I did mean a 18" container, 18 foot(wow).

Thank you for your response. I am looking forward to growing something pretty yet edible. I will probably 6 seeds per container and thin to 3 plants.

I plan on three containers, and I will be saving seed from one container for a SSE Seed Listing next year.

thanks,
Dean

RE: Dwarf Okra

Last year, I planted 3 per 18" container, one container per variety - Okra Lee & Lucy / Little Lucy, I think. The flowers were pretty & I got plenty of okra, but I don't know that they were pretty enough to use as a landscaping plant (despite what the seed catalog said!). I am definitely planting more this year!
