Loquat doesn't flower or fruit

| We live near the coast in Southern California. Our zone is Sunset 24, very mild winters, fog a lot of the year, mild summers. We planted a loquat (var. "Big Jim") about six years ago. It has grown to be a big, beautiful tree but it doesn't flower or fruit. It flowered the second year produced a decent amount of fruit but since then nothing. Do loquats need heat to set off the flowering cycle? Years ago I lived in a warmer and drier part of southern California and had loquat trees that produced amazing amounts of fruit and looked nowhere near as healthy as this one. |

Loquat flower and set fruit here in New Orleans over winter, are in fruit now. We very rarely have a freeze here. Just north of N.O. where we do get hard freezes you can grow the trees but fruiting is iffy. Hopes that helps some. Mike |
