Spice garden: Dwarf Juniper

Posted by silphion (My Page) on

I've been slowly collecting spice plants that grow well in my NW Z8b garden and would like to have a nice, small juniper. Really what I would like is a dwarf cultivar of Juniperus communis of which someone can vouch for the flavor of the berries. Any recomendations? Also, I havn't been able to find if I need a male or female for berries or even if the sex of the plant matters. Thanks all~

I can't help with a cultivar, but I can tell you that for the berries you'll need a boy and a girl plant fairly close together. Also that the berries take 2 years to ripen before you can harvest them.
