Papaya

On a recent trip to south Florida , I purchased the largest papaya I have ever seen , it was greenish and about 10 or 12 inches long. I didn't know that there are more than one variety of papaya, but our papayas in Australia are much smaller and yellowish and not as sweet, but the flesh is about the same colour. Does anyone know how many varieties there are and can I grow the larger one in Sydney Australia?
thank you

RE: Papaya

We recently bought 4 Papaya plants in Home Depot after a fellow customer in the store recommended we get both male and female plants for them to do well. We noticed that each of the pots already had two plants in them. Not knowing anything about growing papayas, we bought two pots of them to help insure that they get what they need. We are watching the four of them closely and watering them regularly in our garden. We planted them in full sun. The pictures on the cards that were attached to the pots show large, green fruits. Some of our planted papaya's leaves seem to be turning yellow. I don't know if this is normal or not. I wonder how many years they have to be before they bare fruit?

Perhaps someone who knows about papayas can help us learn more about how to care for them.
