Need a small edible plant/herb that doesn't require much water

I have a small area between my patio and house that is impossible to run a drip line to. It is a pretty shady spot but does get some morning sun.

I was going to plant succulents there, but I like to plant edible as much as i can. Is there a small herb or edible bush that doesn't require regualr water. Sage or Thyme maybe? I live in CA so it usually doesn't rain from May-Nov. The only water the poor plant is likley to get in that time period is when the kids or i remember to dump some water on it.

Rosemary is quite drought tolerant, makes a nice bush. Does like sun, though. Easy to propagate by cuttings.

I vote for Rosemary too! Thyme needs water, as does my favorite basil! They all like sun! Lavender might be OK. MINT!! Loves shade and tastes yummy in your sun tea!! Just be careful. It will take over!!

I have a fairly large patch of very old lavender growing in a bed that NEVER gets watered - and only a few hours of sun every day. It's pretty leggy and not a prolific bloomer but certainly fills the bed nicely and never needs watering (rain is plenty).

An elderberry bush, once established, would be good. You might have to water the first summer, but then it'd be happy.

My vote is for Rosemary. Another idea is purslane , nothing seems to kill that.
