| I was potting my new kiwi vines and the kids were "helping" by getting some peat out of my bog area that i just built. Well, they mixed the peat with the soil and we topped it with mulch, and brought it inside for the night. The next day i woke up with a distinct dog poop stench coming from the plant. I checked the bog and somehow without noticing they scooped poop! So Gross! I can contain the odor, but don't really want to get hands on with this one....will poop hurt the plant....i'm not expecting fruit this year...will they be ok next year? |

| If you're not too grossed out, you could put plastic bags over your hands and remove it. Otherwise, it's really just manure. I would take it out if it was a direct crop, like lettuce, but the kiwi isn't going to know the difference. (It doesn't have a nose!) Sue |

| There has been a lot of discussion in the composting forum about the toxisity of dog poop. Any meat eating animals have toxins in their feces wich is not killed during the composting process. The main general consenses is that it is fine to use it on flowers and such but keep it away from the plants that you are going to eat. If you are want more details go to the composting forum and do a search for composting dog poo, or useing dog poo as a fertilizer. GRN thumb |
